Planview Introduces Prisms™ Real-Time Business Processes

Improve organizational performance two- to three-times faster

AUSTIN, Texas — February 19, 2003 — Planview, the world leader in integrated portfolio, resource and project management software, announces the addition of Prisms™ Real-Time Business Processes to its highly successful product line. Prisms is a set of organizational governance processes that define project lifecycles, lifecycle roles, stage/gates to authorize projects, content documents, collaboration standards, and mentoring templates for budgeting, work breakdown structures and assigning project resources. Prisms is delivered via Planview software and enabled by Planview web portals and acts as a quick start to building and maturing organizational governance processes. It speeds the implementation of repeatable, disciplined project lifecycles, providing a smart way to build organizational process maturity.

World-class organizations recognize that process immaturity drains productivity, increases time-to-market, and incurs cost and schedule overruns. In a January 2003 research report entitled "Project Management Best Practices: Key Processes and Common Sense," Margo Visitacion, Director of Giga Information Group, wrote: "Organizations continue to look for the key to unlocking the mystery of project management best practices, but the steps that go into successful project management are not mysterious at all — they are standard procedures that, if executed, will improve a project's chances of success. The key word here is "if." Projects fail because of poor planning and fuzzy requirements that cause a chain reaction of poor productivity. Regardless of size, good projects benefit from careful planning and active management. Follow the 20/80 theory: Increase your planning process by 20 percent, and you will reap 80 percent growth in productivity," she added.

Prisms can be implemented immediately or tailored to the unique needs of the organization. The Prisms deliverables include eleven project models, a pre-loaded Planview database with appropriate attributes to categorize investments, projects, service agreements and resources, a process map, a process guide and quick reference cards. Prisms version 7.2 is currently available for general distribution. Additional, domain-specific project models are planned for Prisms, as well as integration of premium third-party content and processes as optional products.

"Planview has put into Prisms more than fourteen years of experience in delivering successful projects," said Patrick Durbin, Founder and CEO of Planview. "Our estimates are that the process knowledge embedded in Prisms can offer organizations performance improvements two to three times quicker than implementing software alone."
