Planview and HAL KS Offer New IT Governance Solution

Partnership Defines True Cost of Enterprise IT

AUSTIN, Texas — May 11, 2005 — Planview Inc., the leading provider of comprehensive IT portfolio management solutions today announced a marketing and sales agreement with HAL Knowledge Solutions, the leading provider of Application Portfolio Management (APM) solutions. This partnership will allow enterprise customers to make better business decisions by fully controlling and managing legacy applications, while gaining a clear framework for the development and integration of new IT applications and services.

This partnership between the leading APM and IT Portfolio Management vendors is a logical marriage of complimentary new technologies; the former providing a clear view of legacy systems; while the latter manages the prioritization, resources and interdependencies of new application development and implementation.

The analyst community, and primarily Forrester Research, is increasingly viewing vendor partnerships in the APM / PPM space as a major driver in the evolution of 'Integrated IT Management'. One important component of Integrated IT Management is the ability of IT executives to access comprehensive dashboard views for real-time information on the status and health of their organization, allowing them to define the true cost of IT and to manage IT as a business.

"Historically, IT departments have lacked the automated functionality for running IT as a business. They have instead focused on providing this functionality to enhance business management and accountability across other areas such as supply chain management, CRM and HR systems," said Mark Kusionowicz, vice president marketing at HAL. "In today's world of budgetary constraints, limited resources and 'charge-back' initiatives, the IT department must become a self sustaining, independent business unit. With this partnership, enterprise customers now have the management tools to make this a reality."

APM analyzes the resources spent maintaining existing applications. By reading source code, it records the relationships among application artifacts to enable impact analysis and a complete understanding of the organization's legacy environment. HAL's analysis functions automatically discover and make a detailed analysis of the source code and data structures used in applications throughout the enterprise. That information is incorporated in the Planview Enterprise™ software and Planview's PRISMS™ best practices allowing IT Managers to collect and manage the total costs involved in IT service delivery. Visibility into all aspects of planned developments empowers IT executives with the enterprise-wide view required for key business decisions.

"Today's IT departments must add value while successfully managing risk and return," said Tod Klubnik, senior vice president of sales and business development at Planview. "By adding our Planview resource management capabilities to HAL's APM solution, we have created a single, comprehensive offering for IT departments to understand and manage all assets and resources, to increase productivity and efficiency, and to enable the highest levels of IT Governance."
