Who

Craig Symons, Vice President and Principal Analyst, Forrester Research

Mr. Symons serves CIO professionals. He is a leading expert on deriving business value from IT. He helps Forrester clients use the Balanced Scorecard to measure and communicate IT performance and maximize the business value from their IT investments. Mr. Symons focuses his research on IT/business alignment, IT performance measurement, IT governance, IT portfolio management, IT demand management, IT human capital management, and running IT like a business.

Mr. Symons has 30 years of experience in the IT industry. He joined Forrester through its acquisition of Giga Information Group, where he was an original member of Giga's startup team and a codeveloper of Giga's research process and research products. Before joining Giga, he spent 11 years at Gartner Group as an analyst and in management and executive roles. In his last position at Gartner, he was senior vice president and CIO, and was responsible for developing Gartner's electronic delivery strategy and products and migrating its infrastructure from a proprietary mainframe environment to a client/server UNIX environment. At Digital Equipment Corporation, Mr. Symons managed a consulting business unit focused on the financial services industry, and at Citibank, he managed an applications development group in the finance division. Mr. Symons started his career as a developer of real-time communications software.

Rich Murphy, Executive in Residence, Planview, and former IT CFO, Deutsche Bank

Rich Murphy, Planview Executive in Residence, and principal with Horizon Management Consulting LLC, is a financial and management authority specializing in cost control, running IT as a business, and operational efficiency.

Previously, Mr. Murphy was a Managing Director with Deutsche Bank for 10 years, where he held the position of CFO for Global Technology and Operations and Support Divisions. In this role, he oversaw a €6B budget that encompassed 23,000 employees responsible for more than 4,000 software applications; he provided financial support for those functions responsible for processing, settling, and reconciling the bank's business transactions; he ran the organization managing the bank's data center, network, desktop support, and telecommunication functions; and was responsible for support for all cost areas, including legal, compliance, audit, and global management.
