Engineer, designer, educator, former astronaut Dr. Story Musgrave to keynote 2018 Planview Customer Conference

Planview Horizons takes place Oct. 10-12 at the JW Marriott in Austin, Texas

AUSTIN, Texas, June 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — Planview Horizons® returns to the Texas capital city for the 20th time since the inception of the annual Planview® customer conference in 1998. The 2018 conference is scheduled for Oct. 10-12 at the JW Marriot in Austin and will feature former NASA astronaut, Dr. Story Musgrave, as the opening day keynote.

"It is an honor to welcome Dr. Story Musgrave as the keynote speaker for Planview Horizons 2018," said Scott Hardey, Planview's chief customer officer. "As someone who is always evolving and adapting, Dr. Musgrave embodies what it means to constantly transform your business and your brand to realize your full potential. This is certain to be another highly engaging and thought-provoking conference for our Planview customer community."

Musgrave's experiences as an esteemed innovator, educator, and explorer uniquely position him to address this audience of business leaders from around the world who are driving work transformation within their organizations. The conference, along with Musgrave's keynote, will give attendees strategic roadmaps and guiding principles to achieve innovation, growth, and exceptional customer experience, no matter how they work.

As the largest gathering of work and resource management thought leaders and practitioners, Planview Horizons is where multinational enterprises and regional institutions – in manufacturing, automotive, retail, technology, healthcare, financial services, insurance, education, transportation, and others – learn how to address the industry trends and market forces impacting their businesses. The conference focuses on equipping attendees with solutions and best practices that help bring their products and services to market faster while delivering greater value to their customers.

More than 600 attendees will have access to a wide array of work and resource management topics, including customer presentations on strategic planning, portfolio and resource management, product innovation, capability and technology management, Lean and Agile delivery, and collaborative work management.

Musgrave will share his insights and perspectives on innovative thinking and organizational learning from his experience as a U.S. Marine, trauma surgeon, NASA astronaut, artist, and educator, to name just a few of his titles and professions.

"We shall journey along the evolutionary synergies that connect all disciplines and all domains; we shall weave webs from the psychosocial and the technical – the biological and the physical; and, along the way, we shall elevate organic enterprise thinking into the realms of art, poetry, and theater," said Musgrave.

Musgrave is a lifelong learner who began exploring his world in the forests near the dairy farm he grew up on in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. He joined the Marines as an aircraft electrician and engine mechanic. Over the next 55 years, he accumulated 18,000 hours in more than 160 aircraft and logged more than 800 freefalls as a parachutist.

During his 30-year career as an astronaut, Musgrave flew on six space flights, performed the first shuttle spacewalk on Challenger's first flight, piloted an astronomy mission and conducted two classified Department of Defense missions. In addition, he was the lead spacewalker on the Hubble Telescope repair mission and operated an electronic chip manufacturing satellite on Columbia on his last mission. During his career with NASA, he also served as a part-time trauma surgeon.

Today, Musgrave operates a palm farm in Orlando, Florida, a production company in Sydney and a sculpture company in Burbank, California. He is also a landscape architect, a concept artist with Walt Disney Imagineering, an innovator with Applied Minds Inc., and a professor of design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He has never stopped learning. He holds seven graduate degrees in math, computers, chemistry, medicine, physiology, literature, and psychology, in addition to 20 honorary doctorate degrees.

Throughout the three-day Planview Horizons customer conference, attendees in roles spanning PMO leaders, project and portfolio managers, enterprise architects, strategic planners, engineers, and administrators will have access to the Planview leadership team and solution experts.
